Get to know our Participant Engagement Specialist, Carrick Wilkie. Carrick is a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) expert who has helped countless NDIS participants find their dream homes and become part of our wonderful Vera Living communities.
How long have you been at Vera Living and what made you join?
“I joined Vera Living only 10 months ago and have learnt so much in that time. Supporting the mission at Vera to provide high-quality, luxury homes for those with SDA funding was an opportunity I couldn’t pass. New to the SDA sector, my main driver for joining was my love of being able to give back to people living with disabilities. The best part of my job is seeing the participants I work with super happy in their new homes.”
What is your Vera Living career highlight?
“I have had many career highlights in only a short time at Vera. I love the SDA sector and working with so many incredible people each day, whether it be participants, Support Coordinators, or the Supported Independent Living providers we work with. One of my favourite moments was after months of supporting three participants moving into their new Vera Living home. I visited them and it was fantastic to see them totally lit up and so happy to have found a new home and new friends. Moments like that are what my job is all about and what I look forward to each month.”
What is your favourite thing about your colleagues?
“I am proud to be such of a great team at Vera. The Participant Engagement team is new, but we are open and honest with each other which is powerful, as it builds trust and a supportive environment that enables us to do our best for the participants we work with. We always work together to come up with new ideas and initiatives on how we can best support participants and the Supported Independent Providers we collaborate with.”
How would your friends describe you?
“Friends describe me as the energy bunny that keeps on giving, or Tigger from Winnie the Pooh that keeps on bouncing. I am a social butterfly who loves being around others and enjoying their company. I’m grateful to have a role where I collaborate with new people all the time and get to meet so many people from all walks of life.”
Do you have any hidden talents?
“Well, some appreciate this ‘talent’ more than others… I can belly dance! An unwelcomed attribute by my now grown-up kids!”
