“I never tire of the heart-warming reaction when someone finds their dream home.”

We spoke to our fantastic Participant Engagement Specialist, Tania Ritter, to find out what a typical week is like for her.

Based in Queensland, Tania has been in the sector for over ten years and is a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) expert who has helped countless NDIS participants find their ideal homes. Her role spans across Queensland, looking after properties from southeast Brisbane to Cairns. Here’s what Tania gets up to each week.

“As a Participant Engagement Specialist, I am often out and about meeting new people, showing them our exceptional homes, and supporting them with their SDA challenges. I collaborate closely with Supported Independent Living providers so that all our tenants stay happy in their homes and get the best care. My role is very busy, but I’m always motivated by being able to transform someone’s life through supporting their SDA journey and finding their home.”

Monday: Catching up with colleagues

“Mondays are for catching up with colleagues. Throughout the day I meet with the wonderful Supported Independent Living providers that we collaborate with. We work with a range of providers across different states, including local and national. I finish the day off with a Participant Engagement team meeting to set tasks for the week, share ideas and see how we can best support each other and the participants we work with. ”

Tuesday: Hosting a home open in one of our brand-new properties

“I love the chance to show our homes to participants, their families, and Support Coordinators. Home opens are busy days, spent showcasing our homes and their luxury features. As a leading SDA provider, Vera Living’s luxury homes are homes to be proud of. I never tire of the heart-warming reaction when someone finds their dream home and begins the journey within the Vera Living community. ”

Wednesday: Coffee catch ups

“I’m privileged to meet so many amazing people in my role, and that means I get to know inside out the challenges NDIS participants are facing. SDA can be a complex and overwhelming process, so I’m happy to meet with people over a coffee to offer my support and expertise. ”

Thursday: Supporting a participant to become a tenant

“My favourite part of my job – when someone has been approved by Vera Living and the Supported Independent Living provider and is ready to move in! I then hand over to our expert Tenant Support Specialist team who support the tenant with signing the lease, their transition plan and remain in contact with tenant throughout their time with Vera Living. Our rolling leases mean tenants can extend as much as they like and can truly enjoy their forever home! ”

Friday: Attend an Expo, visit hospitals, and Support Coordination providers

“When I’m not tying up the loose ends of the week, I attend local Disability Expos, visit hospitals, and present to groups of Support Coordinators to educate people on the ins and outs of SDA. These are a great chance to network and connect with local providers, and form new relationships for future collaborations to ensure we provide the best services and products to our tenants. Then it’s off to do the final school run of the week before a busy weekend ferrying around my kids!”

Thank you, Tania for sharing an insight into your role as a Participant Engagement Specialist and how you help NDIS participants each day.
